The Blu-ray launch of the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy is confirmed to be June 28 2011.

Amazon has set up a useful comparison table summarizing the contents present in all previous DVD editions, the BD involving the Theatrical Editions released last year and the upcoming Extended trilogy on Blu-ray.

In Lord of the Rings Trilogy DVDs, you will see SIX Blu-ray discs holding the 3 movies. The additional 9 'extras' or 'bonus' discs is going to be DVDs. Like the DVD extended edition, the movies will be delivered on 2 discs each.

You will have an additional 'Special Features' disc for every movie holding the Costa Botes documentaries from the Original Theatrical & Extended Limited Edition.

The cool thing is Lord of The Rings digital copy will be included as well. You will get a disc with an additional digital file of the movie to download online. You can copy this file onto your pc or portable media player.

Amazon has updated its side with lengthy details about this. The set is scheduled to be released tomorrow. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Blu-Ray Extended Edition is NOW for sale at best buy of $69.99, normal price is $119.98.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best movies of all time-now in HD extended editions!!!, May 14, 2011
By R. White (Alabama, USA)

This is absolutely the best movie trilogy of all time. I used to think Star Wars was the best, but when these movies came out, they blew Star Wars out of the water. If you love high fantasy based story lines, it doesn't get any better than this. The acting is top-notch, the director Peter Jackson is pure genius, not to mention the writer of the books, J.R.R. Tolkien. And now, finally, they release the extended editions on Blu-Ray. Thank God. Click to read review in full...

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful masterpiece!, March 22, 2011

Peter Jackson's motion picture trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, is one of remarkable vision and artistic exploration. While staying true to J.R.R Tolkien's novels (as best as Hollywood can) Jackson was able to spin the series into his version of the story and surprise, as well as delight all of its viewers. I have always enjoyed the series, and to be honest I was a little worried when I heard they were going to be making it into 3 motion pictures because I know what Hollywood does to films. I am glad to report that he has blown my expectations out of the water Click to read review in full...
